Alzheimer's Care Tips

Practical techniques for routine, redirection, and reducing agitation during difficult moments.

Routine is the single most effective tool in memory care. Meals, bathing, and activities at consistent times reduce confusion and the anxiety that fuels agitation.

Simplify choices. Instead of asking what someone would like for lunch, offer two options you can hold up. Fewer decisions means less overwhelm.

Never argue with a false belief. Redirect to a feeling instead: acknowledge the emotion, then shift attention to a familiar activity, photo, or piece of music.

Track patterns. Late-afternoon agitation, or sundowning, often responds to more light, a small snack, and a calmer environment before it starts.
